Founding Research Scientist

Apply now
Hybrid in Sofia, Bulgaria Full-Time Salary: €80,000-€120,000 + 0.75%-1.5% equity, depending on experience level and technical expertise.

The Role

We are seeking a Research Scientist to join our office in Sofia. You will develop novel methods for decoding neural activity, applying deep learning and statistical techniques to extract semantic information from brain signals. You will drive our core research agenda and can expect to be co-author on leading journal publications.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and evaluate models for neural decoding, from classical statistical models to deep learning architectures.
  • Reproduce and extend results from the neuroscience and machine learning literature.
  • Design experiments and analysis pipelines to validate decoding performance.

About You

We don't hold any of these requirements as hard blockers, and you should reach out if you are excited - even if you don't fit all of these.

  • Strong mathematical foundations: linear algebra, probability, optimisation.
  • Experience training neural networks in PyTorch or similar frameworks.
  • Familiarity with signal processing or time-series analysis; neuroscience background is an advantage but not required.
  • Ability to read and implement methods from academic papers quickly.
  • Outstanding achievement in anything: competitive programming, competitive gaming, art, sports, ...

These requirements are deliberately quite loose, as we want to hire a certain person, not for an immutable job. The exact job will be influenced by what you excel at.

Examples of candidates who are a great fit include:

  • Completed a PhD involving statistical modelling or machine learning.
  • Competitive problem solvers.
  • Strong quantitative background (physics, mathematics, EE) with 3+ years applying ML to real-world data.

We are flexible concerning working from home and exact hours, but will expect presence at the office at least 3-4 days a week. You will shape our research direction from day one.

Come solve (nearly) impossible problems with us!
